Paper 4.1 Presented @ 11.55 GMT presented by Belinda van Zyl
Cat Amongst the Pigeons - The mentoring experiences of Ethnic Heritage Social Workers
Leadership in the social work profession lacks racial diversity despite mentoring being a mechanism supporting career progression. This study explored the mentoring experiences of ethnic-heritage social workers using narrative analysis, aided by image elicitation, and viewed through the lens of critical race theory. The narratives shared by ethnic heritage social workers reveal important insights for same and different ethnicity mentors. The study raises challenges for all mentors and coaches when working in context of disadvantage.
